What is Felting?

Felting, the layering and matting of wool fibers using water and soap to create fabric, is an ancient craft.  Felt was used for things such as rugs, clothing and tents.  This same felt was later created without water using machines that held thousands of felting needles.  Needle Felting using one or a handful of needles to create sculpture was developed in the 1980's.

The sculptures found on this site were primarily made using a single needle.  Much of my work incorporates beading, the inclusion of found objects and fabric to make one of a kind works of art.

My scarves, hats, and bags are also felted though using a different method.  A big believer in recycling, I have taken old wool sweaters, felted them and then transformed them into one-of-a-kind pieces of wearable art.
